The Gerontology Institute offers many ways for students, faculty, and alumni to serve older adults and become civically engaged in the Atlanta area and beyond. Past service projects include, for example, The Alzheimer’s Association’s “Walk to End Alzheimer’s” and the annual “Rally for Seniors” at the State Capitol. For more information about specific ways you can serve in the community, contact us.
Students also get involved in and give back to the community through student-run organizations. The two organizations below are involved in service activities regularly throughout the school year.
Gerontology Student Organizations
Gerontology students have opportunities to attend and present at the Annual Southeastern Student Mentoring Conference (also see below) as well as the Georgia Gerontological Society, Southern Gerontological Society, and Gerontological Society of America annual scientific meetings.
Annual Southeastern Student Mentoring Conference
For over two decades, the Southeastern Student Mentoring conference in Gerontology and Geriatrics has provided the only dedicated venue for students and faculty members from across the southeastern United States, all of whom share a passion for gerontology and geriatrics. Each year this conference provides an excellent opportunity to network with students and faculty from other universities who share an interest in gerontology and geriatrics. The Gerontology Institute is a proud sponsor of the conference.
