Dr. Jennifer Craft Morgan Wins Awards
The Gerontology Institute at Georgia State University would like to congratulate Assistant Professor Jennifer Craft Morgan. Dr. Morgan is the recipient of both the Dean’s Early Career Award, presented by the College of Arts & Sciences, and the Gordon Streib Distinguished Academic Gerontologist Award, presented by the Southern Gerontological Society.
The Dean’s Early Career Award is presented each year to outstanding rising faculty in recognition for their accomplishments, and to encourage and support them as they continue their work and research at GSU.
The Gordon Streib Distinguished Academic Gerontologist Award is given each year by the Southern Gerontological Society, not only for the recipient’s dedication to SGS, but to the field of aging, and in recognition for contributions to research, publishing, students and peers.
Dr. Morgan by far exceeds the criteria for both awards, having published over 30 journal articles and book chapters, numerous technical reports and over 100 presentations at professional conferences. Her research has been funded by national, regional, and foundation agencies including National Institute on Aging, Health Resources and Services Administration, The Hitachi Foundation, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Since arriving at GSU in 2012, Dr. Morgan has become a respected member of the Gerontology faculty with a robust research agenda and passion for mentoring students. In her introduction of Dr. Morgan at the recent SGS Conference, Dr. Candace Kemp described her as “an accomplished gerontologist and scholar.” She went on to say that students see Dr. Morgan as “a great teacher and mentor,” as demonstrated by her fondness for teaching the Capstone Experience course, which prepares students for work after graduate school.
Dr. Morgan’s tireless effort to promote research and education in the field of aging, as well as creating opportunities for the future due to her skill at securing funding, are recognized and appreciated not only by these two distinguished awards, but also by the countless lives she has touched by her work and countenance.
